Solid State Logic is delighted to announce that Heartwork Recording Studio, a new recording and mixing facility located in El Prat (Barcelona) has installed a 32-channel SSL ORIGIN console in their main control room.
“As I was planning the design of this new space, I knew it had to be an SSL right away. My previous workflow relied heavily on the SSL sound. Either the 4k or Duality’s have always made sessions very easy to handle, and I could get a head start on the record’s final sound while tracking. My approach to creating a record focuses less on rigid strategies or production rules and more on fostering a dialogue with the artist or band to understand their vision. I see my role as a guide, collaborating to explore ideas and find creative ways to achieve their goals.
I use a combination of the onboard EQ and outboard gear to get the sounds needed while tracking and rely on the small faders to print that sound at the correct levels or to bus different inputs together to commit to certain sounds.
On mix down, I use all the stereo cues and aux sends as my fx sends, having a total of 8 mono post-fader sends, it’s very important for my workflow. The Bus Compressor sounds amazing. Since I’m so used to it I leave it on all the time, really. It will most likely be part of the sound while mixing, so I want to monitor through it.
The highlight of the ORIGIN for me is the famous Blackknob 242 EQs. Everyone who hears them knows instantly what I’m talking about, they are powerful, clear and with the frequency-dependent gain and Q factors inherent in the design, super musical.”
